Week of July 20, 2026: Timnath Police Officer Actively Avoids Responding to Car Crash with Injuries Nearby and an Alamosa County Sheriff Sergeant Masturbates On-duty in the Jail

Welcome to our weekly sum-up. Every Monday we send out a short summary of the last week’s officers that have landed on Colorado’s Peace Officer Standards and Training public database of law enforcement misconduct and actions. These actions from POST are not necessarily only those that have happened in the last week, but those that have been added, and consist of any other context we could find. Additionally are officers with otherwise obvious misconduct from around the same time.

This week we have a slew of terminations and resignations to avoid terminations, along with revealing multiple officers with past criminal charges. We also have some updates with new documents for previously reported on officers.

Christopher Ramirez (CO-325-222)

• Resigned in lieu of termination for cause as a deputy with El Paso County Sheriff’s Office on July 21
• Arrested July 14 on charges of sexual contact without consent, according to court records.

James Coleman (CO-125357)

• Arrested Dec. 31, 2025 as a captain with the Southern Ute Indian Tribe Police Department on charges of first degree criminal trespassing through knowingly and unlawfully entering or remaining in a dwelling of another
• Resigned in lieu of termination for cause on Jan. 15
• Arrested March 20 on domestic violence-related charges of criminal mischief, third degree trespassing, and violation of a protection order

Christopher Valesey (CO-819-033)

• Terminated for cause as a deputy with Alamosa County Sheriff's Office on June 29
• According to internal investigation, Valesey was terminated for masturbating while on-duty in the jail

David Turay (CO-009-168)

• Terminated for cause as a deputy from the Summit County Sheriff's Office on June 24
• Neither Summit County nor the Sheriff’s Office responded to a request for relevant documents before publishing
• Charged with harassment through threat or obscenity over telephone in January 2024. Case was dismissed by Jefferson County District Attorney in June 2024.

Rena Murillo (CO-6103-6623)

• Terminated for cause as a deputy with the Denver Sheriff's Department on June 9

Ty Myer (CO-035-219)

• Terminated for cause as a deputy with Garfield County Sheriff's Office on July 7
• Previously arrested in September 2019 on domestic violence-related charges of second degree assault through strangulation, third degree assault through recklessly or knowingly causing injury, criminal mischief $300 to $750, and second degree tampering with intent to injure, inconvenience or annoy.
• All charges were dismissed besides second degree assault for which Myer received a two year deferred sentence, 100 hours of community service and three days of jail time but credited three days time served.

Jeffrey Johnson-Dean (CO-1626-1517)

• Resigned in lieu of termination for cause as an officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department on June 22
• Colorado Springs PD did not respond to a request for relevant documents before publishing

Officer updates:

Records that must come directly from a law enforcement agency are not required to be released within three business days, as it is with CORA requests to municipalities. Sometimes an officer is added to the database later in the week, and there isn’t time for records requests to come before the newsletter has to be sent out. Sometimes the records we get back are resumes or job applications without much more information, but sometimes they are documents that do lend more important details. Whenever any of these updates come in, we’ll put them here.

Jordan Bandt (CO-138383)

• Terminated for cause as a deputy with El Paso County Sheriff's Office on July 6
• Updates: Termination letter
  • Termination letter states Bandt was terminated for violating the following internal policies:
    • Standard of Performance and Neglect of Duty
    • Unsatisfactory Work Performance
    • Disobedience of Orders or Directives
    • Violations of Laws, Rules, and Regulations

Jacob Meckley (CO-135662)

• Resigned in lieu of termination for cause as an officer with Timnath Police Department on June 9
• Updates: Termination letter and internal affairs summaries
  • According to an investigative summary, on January 18 Meckley was on-duty on patrol in a marked vehicle when a car crash involving injuries happened  within half a mile of where he was parked. Meckley did not respond to the dispatched call and, at the end his shift, the summary states he “intentionally took a route that avoided traveling through the area of the crash.”
  • When interviewed for the investigation, the summary states Meckley acknowledged he was aware of the crash, that someone was reportedly “not being well” and he chose not to respond, that he was CPR and First Aid certified, that he was the closest to the crash location and that he purposely avoiding driving home through that area.
  • When asked in the same interview if he did not respond to the crash because it was 6:48 a.m. and his shift was over at 7:00 a.m., Meckley stated, “it’s a portion of it.”
  • An addendum to the investigation states that on April 16 around 5 a.m., Meckley’s supervisor found Meckley in the driver’s seat of his patrol vehicle “audibly snoring.”
  • All allegation of internal policy violations against Meckley were sustained

Daryl Johnson (CO-036-796)

• Terminated for cause as an officer with Rangely Police Department on May 21
• Given a credibility report as an officer with Rangely Police Department on June 12
• Updates: Termination letter
  • Two internal affairs investigations are stated as related to Johnson’s termination:
    • 2026-01
      • Sustained findings that Johnson “inappropriately and unauthorizedly [sic] disclosed sensitive, non-public operational details regarding active narcotics case P26-0085 to your spouse...” including identities and evidence seized, which the wife told others about.
      • The summary continues that “it was established that an individual residing or spending time in your personal residence is a convicted felon associated with local illegal drug traffic, creating an unacceptable conflict of interest and heavily compromising the integrity, safety, and tactical security of active law enforcement operations.”
    • 2026-02
      • Summary states that in April, Johnson and his family were involved in a car crash in Utah and he “failed to ensure the crash was immediately reported to the proper law enforcement authorities and left the scene despite injuries to your child and vehicle damage, leading to your spouse receiving a criminal citation from the Utah Highway Patrol.”
      • The summary states that the investigation “revealed an orchestrated effort to evade law enforcement detection,” and that he gave false and misleading statements during the investigation regarding seatbelt usage, prior knowledge of Utah state law and fabricated historical injuries “to evade accountability.”
