Castle Rock School Resource Officer Alfred Toliver, 33, was arrested last month on two counts of attempt to influence a public servant — a felony, false reporting, failing to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident with damage only and careless driving.

According to his arrest affidavit, Toliver allegedly sideswiped a car going 90 mph on the night of Aug. 15. Investigating officers from Lone Tree Police Department interviewed Toliver multiple times over the course of almost a month, with him initially telling officers that he did not drive the car that night, but his babysitter did — a student he met two years ago at a previously assigned high school.

Toliver changed his story multiple times according to the affidavit. At one point he stated he’d take the blame just so insurance would cover the damage to his car and the person who he allegedly hit. Eventually he admitted, according to the affidavit, that he had been driving that night. He stated that he remembered falling asleep slightly at a light then making it home and was awoken the next morning by the responding officer’s phone call.

According to the affidavit, records from Toliver’s cell phone acquired through a warrant show him sending a message the day after the crash stating he was side-swiped and another message on Aug. 25 to his sergeant at Castle Rock Police Department that he was involved in a crash.

According to Castle Rock PD Senior Media Relations Specialist Taylor Temby, Toliver was most recently assigned to Castle View High School and he had been placed on administrative leave on Aug. 26 when the agency learned of the criminal investigation.

Toliver posted a $2,000 bond on Sept. 23.

Castle Rock Police Department hired Toliver in July 2019 according to payroll records, and terminated him for cause on Sept. 25.
