Week of June 8, 2026: Former Denver Police Officer Charged with Domestic Violence-Related Assault, Strangulation, Harassment and False Imprisonment

Week of June 8, 2026: Former Denver Police Officer Charged with Domestic Violence-Related Assault, Strangulation, Harassment and False Imprisonment
Welcome to my weekly sum-up. Every Monday I send out a short summary of the last week’s officers that have landed on Colorado’s Peace Officer Standards and Training public database of law enforcement misconduct and actions. These actions from POST are not necessarily only those that have happened in the last week, but those that have been added, and consist of any other context I could find. Additionally are officers with otherwise obvious misconduct from around the same time.

This week we see a catch-up from POST with 19 actions added, including multiple decertifications for lying during internal affairs investigations along with multiple former officers with criminal charges.

Christopher Gearhart (CO-3534-2262)

  • Given a credibility report while with Lakewood Police Department on June 11
  • Resigned while under investigation from the Lakewood Police Department on May 9
  • Arrested May 19 on six counts of official misconduct and four counts of cyber-crime
    • According to the 1st District Attorney’s Office, on July 22, 2025, Gearhart and four other Lakewood police department patrol agents responded to a call “involving a twenty-eight-year-old intoxicated female.” The woman said she recognized Gearhart and “repeatedly verbally alleged” that he had tried to have sex with her, made sexual comments, and intentionally manipulated the audio on his bodycamera. The woman also said that he kept her “in the car at the detox facility for approximately thirty minutes during their contact.”
    • Two days later the other officers reported these comments to LPD internal affairs and Gearhart was placed on paid administrative leave.
    • On August 28, 2025 LPD requested the 1st DA conduct an independent criminal investigation with Gearhart resigning shortly after the DA took over.
    • The DA found evidence of Gearhart “intentionally muting his department issued BWC, terminating recordings during arrest, and conducting unauthorized queries of Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) records.”
    • Investigators also reviewed “thousands of pages of text message content from Gearhart’s assigned work cell phone” which revealed “both personal and work related use and contained explicit photographs and sexually related communications, including communications with former female arrestees, witnesses, and victims, both on and off duty.”
    • According to the DA, Gearhart was working as a non-sworn booking deputy at an ICE detention center in Denver when arrested.

Joshua Alcon (CO-9065-7466)

  • Subject of a criminal charge while not employed with a law enforcement agency
  • Arrested August 16, 2025 by Colorado Springs Police Department for domestic violence-related charges including:
    • one charge of second degree assault through strangulation
    • one charge of third degree assault through knowingly or recklessly causing injury
    • one charge of harassment through striking, shoving or kicking
    • one charge of false imprisonment.
  • Alcon has plead not guilty to all charges.
  • According to an arrest affidavit:
    • A DoorDash driver followed the sound of yelling to a door a floor above where he was delivering and knocked. The driver told officers that Alcon answered the door, with a woman — Alcon’s then wife — inside “expressing she wanted to leave.” He said he told Alcon to let her leave or he would call the police. Reporting officers described Ring footage later supplied by the wife as showing Alcon yelling multiple racial slurs at the driver while the wife screamed in the background. It showed the driver telling Alcon again to let her leave before Alcon slammed the door and the driver then calling the police. The driver told officers that the woman left minutes later.
    • According to the affidavit, when officers contacted Alcon he initially refused to open the door and stated the neighbor was the one yelling loudly, before then stating he and his wife had an “altercation.” Reporting officers state in the affidavit that Alcon said the wife hit him on the head with her fist 45 minutes prior to their arrival and denied being physical with her, though changed his phrasing to wrestling and then a struggle.
    • Reporting officers spoke with the wife who said that Alcon threw her around the apartment and strangled her “at least six times.” She described deep chest and neck pain, and that though she did not lose consciousness, her vision began to fade at one point. She told officers, according to the affidavit, that Alcon said while choking her: “I can kill you if I want.” She continued that Alcon had grabbed her hair and hit her head on a dresser, and kicked her. Officers state in the affidavit observing injuries consistent with her explanations.
  • A week after his arrest, he was charged with a criminal violation of the protection order against him related to that arrest.
  • Sworn in as an officer with the Denver Police Department in 2018, having won an award for most inspirational recruit. No longer on DPD payroll as of at least April.
  • No previous actions.

  • Decertified June 5 for having “knowingly made an untruthful statement concerning a material fact OR knowingly omitted a material fact on a criminal justice record and during an administrative investigation and disciplinary process on January 31, 2024.”
  • Terminated for cause from Denver Police Department on January 13, 2025
  • According to a Denver Civil Service Commission Decision and Order letter, Knight responded to a hit-and-run on Dec. 25, 2023 where she was responsible for a duffel bag that was recovered at the scene. She followed the victim to the hospital, but bodycamera footage shows the duffel bag staying in her cruiser through her shift until her returning to the police station without it. Knight stated she had no knowledge of the disappearance of the duffel bag in an investigation. According to the report, “the conclusion of the investigation was that Petitioner committed a materially deceptive act regarding her responses during the investigation of the disappearance of the duffel bag.” The letter affirms Knight’s discipline for this as well as her termination.

  • Resigned while under investigation as an officer with Northglenn Police Department on Aug. 1, 2025
  • Blue Surveillance was denied the related internal affairs investigation from Northglenn PD as, according to Chief James May, the records are not in the public interest. He continued that the misconduct did not involve a member of the public and “ultimately, there are too many concerns with potentially damaging the privacy interests of the individuals involved.”
  • Northglenn PD Sergeant Joshua Moreau resigned while under investigation the same day as Campos, with his internal affairs report denied in the same letter for the same reasons.

Brian Tate (CO-160-705)

  • Terminated for cause as an officer with Golden Police Department on Feb. 2, 2026
  • Blue Surveillance was denied the termination letter by the City of Golden as they have incorrectly defined it as a criminal justice record
  • According to disciplinary summaries received by Golden Police Department, they received a complaint against Tate on Nov. 26, 2025 which led to his dismissal. Golden PD claims it concerned conduct not involving a member of the public and not while on duty, so they denied releasing the complaint itself.
  • Golden PD gave the same reasoning for not releasing a November 2022 complaint that led to a four day suspension and two year performance plan
  • The only released complaint involved an accusation of Tate being unprofessional in his handling of a report by a mother of an assault against her son.
  • Applied to Golden PD January 2022

  • Terminated for cause from Colorado State Patrol on May 9, 2025
  • Blue Surveillance was denied Garcia’s termination letter from Colorado State Patrol in March “due to privacy interests of the parties involved, and the agency's interest in keeping confidential information confidential...”
