Colorado Springs Officer Charged with Official Misconduct and Cybercrime

Officer John Granillo has been with the department since 2013

Colorado Springs Police Officer John Granillo was charged with first degree official misconduct and cybercrime through unauthorized access on June 8.

The charges stem from actions in September of last year where, according to a probable cause affidavit, Granillo repeatedly accessed a case file “in excess of authorized access” on the vandalism of a co-officer’s car that said they went on one date together.

According to the affidavit, a mutual friend of Granillo and another officer at CSPD reported a domestic violence incident between them.

The friend told reporting officers that Granillo had said himself and the other officer were dating, but months afterwards the friend noticed the other officer “isolating” themself and acting “overly emotional.” The other officer told the friend, according to the affidavit, that they only went on one date with Granillo and believed he “may have been following” them and spreading rumors about them to other CSPD members.

The friend states that Granillo told them that the other officer was following him, not the other way around.

The other officer also informed the friend, according to the affidavit, that they have been followed by several cars they didn’t recognize, believed there might be a tracker on their car though couldn’t locate one, and that two of their personal cars had been vandalized — one was both keyed and had the tires slashed multiple times.

The reporting officer states in the affidavit that he reviewed a report from 2024 for the second vandalism case and Granillo’s internal network user had accessed the report one morning and did so four more times within five minutes the next day too. The reporting officer states that Granillo had not been assigned to that case or completed any supplements related to it and that the case was “inactivated” a little over a week prior.

CSPD served Granillo a summons on June 8, 2026.

Granillo has been with CSPD since 2013. According to the department, he resigned while under investigation on Aug. 1.

His next court date is a pre-trial conference set for Sept. 9.
