Colorado State Trooper Arrested for Domestic Violence-Related Aggravated Assault
Colorado State Trooper Ryan Holmes was arrested Thursday afternoon by Firestone Police Department for domestic violence-related second-degree aggravated assault through strangulation.
According to his arrest affidavit, his wife, a major with CSP, reported Tuesday that Holmes allegedly assaulted her on Dec. 20, 2024. According to her retelling to Firestone Police detectives, Holmes became agitated that morning, started an argument, and he "grabbed her throat with one hand and lifted her off her feet."
The affidavit continues that Holmes "pushed her backward from the coat rack area [in their home] to the door jam, approximately 10 feet still holding her neck area." The wife told Firestone detectives that she did not lose consciousness, but was "dizzy" and her throat was sore for about a week afterward.
The argument turned to financial issues, she stated, and she grabbed a collectible figurine of Holmes' "intending to point out that he spent money on figures but not on house repairs," but before she could, Holmes "struck her across the left side of her face with his right hand in an open-handed slap." The wife stated the pain was "seven to eight out of ten" and that her "left eye became blurry for the remainder of the day."
The affidavit states that the wife supplied pictures from that day to the reporting detective showing bruising on her face, as well as a recorded phone call between her and Holmes soon after he allegedly slapped her stating he "should never ever put my hands on you and I'm so sorry," and called her a "fucking bitch."
She told Firestone police that she had not reported the alleged incident previously because "she was concerned about the impact on both their careers given her position," and that he promised to work on their relationship and they attended counciling.
The wife stated that she decided to report this previous incident now because he "exhibited threatening behavior" on the evening of Aug. 13 that reminded her that "his anger issues had not been resolved."
That evening, according to the affidavit, Holmes yelled "in her face" and raised his fist near her face. She states in the affidavit that he then went to bed and she looked through his work phone where she found photographs of a female coworker topless, naked, and on top of Holmes "that appeared to be taken by the woman's husband."
She states that she also found a message between the coworker and Holmes stating, "I'll come over on my lunch to fuck your wife," which the affidavit describes as "indicating Holmes was using his patrol vehicle while on duty to engage in this conduct."
The wife states in the affidavit that Dec. 20, 2024 was not the first time Holmes grabbed her by the throat, doing so in 2021 as well. She stated that Holmes "has been verbally, emotionally, and physically abusive throughout their relationship."
According to a statement by CSP, he is on administrative leave. He’s been employed by CSP since July 1998.
