Week of June 1, 2026: Alamosa Officer Charged with Witness Tampering and Official Misconduct in His Own Domestic Violence Case
Welcome to my weekly sum-up. Every Monday I send out a short summary of the last week’s officers that have landed on Colorado’s Peace Officer Standards and Training public database of law enforcement misconduct and actions. These actions from POST are not necessarily only those that have happened in the last week, but those that have been added, and consist of any other context I could find. Additionally are officers with otherwise obvious misconduct from around the same time.

This week we got two actions telling of criminal charges from last month and the month before after more than two weeks without any POST actions.

Evan Graff (CO-112-214)

  • Subject of a criminal charge as an officer with Colorado Springs Police Department as of April 9
  • Issued a summons for obstructing an emergency medical service provider
  • According to court documents, Graff was brought to the hospital while off-duty for intoxication. It states that Graff “got aggressive” while a registered nurse treated him. She told responding officers that Graff “balled his fists and pulled his arm back” and she thought he was going to punch her and that his actions obstructed her ability to do her job.
  • No previous actions

Leonel Sarmiento (CO-818-115)

  • Subject of a criminal charge while an officer with Alamosa Police Department on May 11, 2026
  • Previous subject of a criminal charge action while an officer with Alamosa Police Department from Sept. 17, 2025
  • The two cases are related:
    • 2025M430, arrest date of Sept. 16, 2025
      • Charged with domestic violence related harassment on September 23, 2025
      • According to the arrest affidavit, Sarmiento and his wife were recently separated, with both of them in his truck as he was dropping her off at her home. It states that Sarmiento exited the truck and saw the wife had a letter in her hand from inside the glove compartment and he jumped into the cab towards her. The wife rushed out of the truck, slip and fell to the ground. Sarmineto climbed through the cab and out the passenger side after her. He tried to grab the letter and “ended up on top of Mrs. Sarmiento and was restraining her to get the letter, but Mrs. Sarmiento did not let go of the letter.” Sarmiento then walked away.
    • 2026CR111, case filed May 11
      • Charged with domestic violence-related tampering with a witness or victim and first degree official misconduct
      • According to the arrest affidavit, Sarmiento wrote a letter on an Alamosa Police Department computer, on-duty, addressed as if from the ex-wife, requesting the 12th District Attorney’s Office dismiss the harassment case against him. The affidavit states Sarmiento attempted to influence the ex-wife to submit the letter as if she authored it, with her stating that he “used various forms of coercion, including peripheral bribes, emotional manipulation involving their children, and statements indicating suicidal ideation.”
      • Part of the letter stated:
        • “I do not believe that Leonel Sarmiento is an aggressive person and I would also like the protection order to be removed. Our children need him...”
        • “I would like to reiterate that I will not testify against Leonel.”
      • The ex-wife told investigating officers she initially delayed reporting the letter because she “feared she could face consequences for initially agreeing to Sarmiento’s tactics.” It wasn’t until later that she “recognized his actions as manipulative and likely a violation of law.”
      • The affidavit continues that Alamosa PD Chief George Dingfelder told investigating officers that he considered Sarmiento’s actions to be an “unauthorized use of his official function” and violated multiples internal policies as well as statute.
  • No known former agencies
