Commerce City Officer Arrested in Denver for Domestic Violence-Related Assault
Alejandro Berra was at home in Denver during the alleged assault
Commerce City Police Officer Alejandro Berra was arrested by Denver Police at his home on April 27 for domestic violence-related assault, according to court documents.
His court summons states that he shares his apartment with his girlfriend of four years, and during an argument on April 26, she knocked his hat off his head to which he then allegedly slapped her in the face with an open hand.
Berra, originally from Florida, paid a $500 bond on the 28th. His next hearing is May 11 for a relinquishment hearing related to a protection order coming from the case. If a protection order is granted against someone, that person must relinquish all firearms for the length of that order.
Berra applied to Commerce City Police Department twice before being hired in December of 2024, according to his applications attained by Blue Surveillance. He had no previous law enforcement experience.
According to Commerce City Police Department Public Information Officer Joanna Small, Berra is currently on administrative leave.
Berra's arresting officer was Christopher Valko, who has had multiple instances of misconduct and bounced between various police departments in previous years.
In 2017 as a Denver officer, Valko was found by the Colorado District Court to have violated a driver’s Fourth Amendment rights by conducting an “unconstitutional” search of his car during a traffic stop. As a Parker Police officer in 2021, Valko reached inside a door to grab a suspect and take him into custody – an entrance that the department deemed unlawful in an internal investigation that sustained multiple other policy violations. Valko resigned in lieu of termination from Parker. He later joined Sheridan Police Department and now is with Denver again.
